One speaks of juristic translations when specialised legal knowledge is required. This includes most contracts, general business terms and conditions or commercial registry matters.

Juristic translators are also preferred for the translation of certificates, annual reports or commercial registry excerpts. In most cases, juristic translators have a corresponding authorization to confirm the credibility of their own translation. One differentiates between sworn, authorised and certified translators. Authorisation is obtained from a regional court or higher regional court. The requirements for a sworn translator differ between federal states. A police certificate of good conduct is mandatory. An examination on juristic terminology also needs to be passed. Certified translations are usually valid within Germany. Translations with a certification stamp often require an additional apostil or legalisation for other countries. This confirms that the certificate issued in Germany is genuine. Whether an apostil or legalisation is required depends on the country for which you need the translation.
